That combo is aided by the fact that the Hammer can finish pretty much any string of attacks with a devastating strike which expends its ammo system in a hard-hitting explosion. Sure, the hammer is slow when you compare it to weapons like the Sword, Chain Blades, and War Pike, but it still combos very well. The hammer in the hunting party is huge in battles versus heavily-armored Behemoths and those that can be knocked down and stunned, making an open target for everyone else to lay the beatdown on. Even beyond that primary factor, it hits like a freight train. The Hammer is worthy addition to any hunting party for a very, very important reason: it is the only weapon with built-in stagger damage. It then allows you to back off fast, do some damage from a distance, and get right back in when you want to, making it an all-around great option. Where other weapons have pretty blatant weaknesses, the Chain Blades' one weakness of weak singular hits feels marginal in comparison to the fact that it can deliver a ton of those hits in short order. There’s definitely a window for it, but the same can be said of any weapon. If you have time, the Weak, Weak, Weak, Strong combo creates a windmill that hits rapidly and stacks damage fast and hard. When you do decide to go all-in, the Chain Blades’ combos also have you covered. The heavy attack on the Chain Blades is a very long range one that allows you to hit most Behemoths from a relatively safe distance and more easily watch for and dodge incoming danger. Their key component is the ability to hook and pull yourself to the Behemoth and then vault out to a safe distance in relatively quick order, making them arguably the best weapon in the game for evasive maneuvers. When it comes to slice damage and mobility, the Chain Blades have pretty much everything you need. What’s the best? We’ve put together a tier list of Dauntless weapons based on the above factors and more. While none of them are useless by any stretch of the imagination, there’s a depth of utility, power, overall moves, and accessibility that makes some better candidates for use than others. The first for pretty much any player is likely this: Which weapon do I start with? The six categories of weapons in the game each do very different things. Dauntless’s launch on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One has brought with it a number of players, as well as a number of questions.
